Arowana fish
Arowana fish is a long sleek streamlined fish of great beauty with a unique character. Arowana is large and often aggressive with the potential of rapid growth. Many believe that arowanas bring good luck and fortune. Arowana is freshwater fish. There are ten different species originating from different parts of the world. Arowana is usually vibrantly colored and comes in shades of red, gold, silver and black. In this fish head is bony and elongated body is covered by large , heavy scales with a mosaic pattern of canals. Arowana species typically grow to around 2 to 3 ft in captivity.



Arowana fish Diet and feeding
Arowana diet consists of live or freeze fish and insects or inverts with sharp or very hard shells for juvenile arowana. These fishes are surface feeders often gliding just below the water surface. Arowanas are carnivorous and have strong predatory instincts. They can be fed on a diet of feeder goldfish, frogs, and shrimp. They also like to eat small insects and small birds if arowana is in fish pond.

Aquarium care for Arowana
Keep in an appropriately sized aquarium, keep Arowana fish is a surface swimming fish. So width and length of the tank are more important than height. Arowana is one of the largest growing species of aquarium fish and can sometimes reach lengths of over 4 feet. The tank size 150 gallon or large outdoor ponds are required. Arowana in wild has been jumping 10 feet or more to capture birds or insects. Arowana is heavy eaters and tends to produce a lot of waste. They can be kept in community tanks with large, non- aggressive species like pacus, Oscars, green terrors, gars and other large species of catfish. Arowanas are solitary fish and only allow company while young, adults may show dominance and aggression like flowerhorn. Sometimes some peoples decorate there fish tank with plants. Arowana survive in surface of water so don’t use plants on surface of water.

Breeding
Breeding arowanas fish in an aquarium is virtually impossible and most Arowana are breed in large fish farms in Asia. Arowana is mouth brooders and the males of the species carry the eggs in their mouths until the fry are hatched and their yolk sacks are fully absorbed. Eggs color is bright orange.

Types of arowana


Asian Arowana
The gills cover, fins and edges of the scales have unique red coloring and due to its different core color of scales. Asian Arowana is highly priced and in great demand because of a limited supply. Asian arowanas grow up to 35 inches total length. Asian arowanas have long bodies, dorsal and anal fins. They got large scales.



Green Arowana
It has a green scales and a greyish green baby with a dark striped grey/green tail. It is a cheapest in price among the variety of Asian Arowana due to unattractive colorization exhibited when in adulthood. This arowana type got attractive color shades. Live in fresh water. A lot of swimming space is necessary. Their tank should be park in low traffic areas to keep the arowana from getting frightened by sudden movements. Sudden movements around their aquarium should be avoided.



Silver Arowana
It is totally silver in color. Its scales and fins are silver. Silver Arowana is the most common and one of the cheapest Arowana you can find easily in the most local fish shop. This fish has relatively large scales, a long body and a tapered tall, with the dorsal and anal fins extending all the way to the small caudal fin, with which they are nearly fused.  It usually swims near the water surface waiting for potential prey.



Jardini Arowana
A graceful swimmer that spends much time near the surface. The Arowana will also jump, so a really good aquarium covered should be used. While it prefers live load, it will sometimes adapt to pellet foods when kept in an aquarium. The body is very flat from side to side if you look at if from above the fish looks very thin, it’s up and down profile is very deep. Their size and dietary requirements make them a choice for only those willing to meet their needs. They have very large mouths which open like a trap door. Still waters of streams and swamps where it is usually seen near the surface or close to shore among aquatic vegetation.
